About This Item

Singapore: Sembawang Shipyard, 1998. Slight bump to the tip of the rear board. The slipcase is a little worn with a damaged area on the back. Signed by Chew on the title page. It has been three decades since the 1st December 1968, when the British Admiralty handed over the sprawling Naval Base to the Singapore Government for one Singapore dollar. From this humble beginning, under the watchful eye of the British Navy and the management of Swan Hunter (International) Shipyards, 3500 people of a newly formed Sembawang Shipyard Pte Ltd. Took their first rotations through the shipyard, and learned the business of ship repair. Within their first decade, the people of Sembawang went through the first of three major recessions. Over the next ten years, the British left, and the Singaporeans began their slow rise through the ranks. The berths and workshops were modernised, new floating docks were installed, and the 400,000 dwt Premier Dock was completed. Fifteen years later, Sembawang Shipyard Ltd. Was run by Singaporeans at every level, listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, had made profits of $100 million a year, and was one of the most successful public companies in Singapore. Through three decades from 1968 to 1998, the people of [the] Shipyard were honing, equipping and training themselves to be the best shipyard. Over the years, a Sembawang Spirit grew; a spirit of dedication and commitment based on values of Superior Customer Service, People, Safety, Quality, Teamwork, Integrity and Innovatiotiveness.. Signed by Author. 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
