Madrid:: D. M. de Burgos,, 1818.. First Spanish edition. Scarce.. 8vo. . Contemporary marbled calf rebacked with red title label in gilt to spine. Inscribed by the author in Spanish on front free endpaper. Very minor chip to outer margin of first two leaves and a very small worm track to outer margin of last two leaves no affect to any content or text still overall a very good copy of a scarce book signed by the author. Two newspaper clippings freely laid in back relating to he Duchess of La Valiere. Small library plate to inside front board. At time of description we locate no other copies of this edition as well as no other books signed by the Countess. A translation of La Duchesse de la Valiere - the fictional history of Francoise-Louise de la Baume le Blanc, Duchesse de la Valiere (1644-1710). Stephanie-Felicite Countess de Genlis (1746-1830) first woman to serve as governor (governess) of royal princes when she was appointed to direct the education of the children of Phillipe, Duke of Orleans - son of Louis XIII of France. French novelist playwright and innovative educator. Her career as a writer spanned five decades and her works were widely read throughout Europe.
