Random House, New York, 1984. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. Illustrator: Photographic. X, 406 pages, acknowledgements, notes and references and index. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white photographs throughout the text. Black coloured cloth boards with gilt author's embossed initials to the front panel and gilt titles to the backstrip. A little bumping to the corners of the backstrip and rubbing to the book corners. A few handling marks to the endpapers. Black-and-white photographic dustwrapper, of H.G. Wells, with white and pale peach coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Black-and-white photograph of the author to the rear fold over panel. A little rubbing and creasing to the dustwrapper corners and dustwrapper edges. Rubbing to the panels of the dustwrapper and there is a small closed tear to the lower edge of the rear dustwrapper edge. There is a triangular crease to the top right-hand corner of the front fold over panel. The author's biography of H.G. Wells and of the literary worlds in which he wrote; that of late Victorian, Edwardian and of post-World War I world. The book is all a more intriguing as the author is H.G.
