About This Item
New York: The Modern Library / Random House. Very Good- with no dust jacket. [c.1939-59]. Hardcover. To say that Frederick William Rolfe (who wrote this pseudo-history under his famous nom de plume of Frederick Baron Corvo) was an eccentric would be to understate the turbulent life of the author. In this Modern Library reprint edition, he describes the excesses of the Italian Renaissance-era House of Borgia, and attempts to revive the reputation of Pope Alexander the Sixth, among other things. Includes an introduction by Shane Leslie. --- In Toledano spine 8 / rust cloth / gilt titling on black spine & cover blocks / black topstain / grey Kent endpapers / volume lacks the dust jacket. Likely published c.1939-59 (though 1931 date appears in the book). ML #192.1. --- With dulling to spine & cover gilding and age-toning to leaves, else a tightly-bound, clean and unmarked copy.; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); xxxiii, 409 pages .
