About This Item
London: Cresset Press, 1969. Well-regarded history of pre-modern Japan, partly of note for its integration of political, social, & artistic considerations. Sansom (1883-1965) spent over 30 years in Japan as a diplomat, intermittently from 1904 to the outbreak of World War Two, and later visits. Originally published by Stanford from 1958-1963, these are later British printings, the third (1969), second (1965), & second (1966), respectively; hardcovers in jackets as pictured. Light wear to books, but tape stains on the endsheets of volumes 1 & 2, ink name & year in volume 3; price-clipped (1&2) jackets show some rubbing, chipping, light creasing, short tears, tape stains to flaps of 1 & 2. Texts clean; x, [2], 500; xix, [3], 442; xii, [2], 258 pages; index in each volume, bibliographic notes, b/w illustrations, maps, b/w plates. We regret, but international shipping will be about 2-3 times the quoted amount.. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Good/Good. Large Octavo. Set.
