About This Item

Henry Regnery Company, Chicago, 1976. First Edition. Softcover. Good Condition. Illustrator: Photographic. acknowledgements, preface by editor, three appendices and bibliography. The text is illustrated with four pages of black and white photography – of various science-fiction magazine covers, between pages 152 and 153. Colour illustrated card cover, by Josh Kirby, pink and black colour titles to the front panel and backstrip. "By 1936 America, the home of science-fiction publications, was feeling secure again [after World War I], and people tended to ignore the gathering clouds of war. The science-fiction magazine market became big business Reaching the first of its peaks, and only to be matched again in the fifties." -- from the rear panel blurb. This is the story of that golden era. Some creasing of the book corners with rubbing of the book edges and panels. Some grubby marks to the back strip and rear panel and original book price has been blackened out, top right-hand corner of the rear panel. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Pink coloured ink notation to the top right-hand corner of the free front end page. This is the first USA edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. (8), 9-298, (6) pages,.
