This is the 1873 HARDCOVER first printing -- not a cheaply-made modern reprint. NOT a library discard. It is bound in the original cloth with a gilt-decorated spine and blind-stamped covers. The spine is uniformly sun-lightened but all gilt lettering and decorations are still bright and distinct. SEE PHOTOS. The cover is faded at the edges. Spine ends and corners are mildly worn. Hinges are sound. Original yellow endpapers. No owner's name or bookplate. A few pages are lightly foxed but are otherwise clean and unmarked. Complete with all 6 folding maps (one hand-colored), and 48 tissue-guarded steel-engraved portraits, diagrams, fold-out lithographs, etc. Included are important accounts of the Pennamite Wars, early Indian tribes, histories of early settlers, annals of each township, etc. The frontispiece, a large folding map of the county (16" wide by 12.5" tall) has been carelessly folded. It is missing a dime-sized piece at the margin, and has a few archival-quality tape repairs on the reverse. The title-page continues: "Also, a Sketch of Woman's Work in the County for the United States Sanitary Commission..." Among 5 appendices is "A List of the Soldiers of the National Army Furnished by Many of the Townships." Another appendix is entitled "Joe Smith, The Mormon Prophet" which offers several first hand accounts of Smith when he lived in Susquehanna County and was "engaged in the compilation, or rather, the translation of the Book of Mormon."
