Chicago: American Historical Society, 1914. 1st edition. Hardcover. VERY GOOD. Index hidden in the front of the first volume., complete five volume set. Gilt spine titles bright, Brown and gold marbled endpapers and green marbled edges, gilt top edge. Clean, tight, no names. Some light wear to these heavy buckram bindings, with publisher's reinforced hinges; the set is made to hold up under heavy use. Upper outside hinge of vol. V beginning to tear.
BASIC 109 - " Most valuable part of the work is that written by Col. Johnson and containing his personal observations on events in Texas in the 1820's and 30's." He commanded the Matamoros Expeditioin in 1836 and narrowly escaped execution.. Last three volumes are mug books devoted to biographies of early pioneers and prominent Texans. This work combines the memoirs of an early Texas leader with the scholarship of two of Texas' ablest historians. It was fifty years in the making and contains much essential material on the Texas Revolution not available elsewhere. RADER 2094. Rare
