About This Item

Benchmark Publications. Softcover. New. 25th Anniversary Benchmark Publications Edition. This project originally appeared as a series of articles in MODEL RAILROADER magazine and was first published as a book in 1984. That edition has been out for print for more than a decade. In this Silver Anniversary Benchmark Publications' Edition, author and artist Malcolm Furlow again shows you how to build your own version of the HOn3 San Juan Central. A new chapter tells what has happened to the railroad and its builder in the past 25 years. This book describes how its author, Malcolm Furlow, built the San Juan Central, an HOn3 model railroad. Malcolm described building this layout in a nine-part series of articles in MODEL RAILROADER magazine (November 1983 to August 1984). These articles were re-published by Kalmbach Books in 1984-as the softbound HO Narrow Gauge Railroad You Can Build. The book went through three printings by Kalmbach over the next seven years. Now, 25 years after the first printing, this Silver Anniversary Edition has been produced by Benchmark Publications, Ltd., publishers of the NARROW GAUGE AND SHORT LINE GAZETTE magazine. While the text, drawings, and photographs of the original book have been faithfully reproduced, the front and back covers are new, as is this introduction, and a chapter about the many activities of Malcolm after he built the San Juan Central-and what happened to it. Contents: Ch. 1: Ride the San Juan Central, pp. 2-11, Ch. 2: Bench work for the San Juan Central, pp. 12-17, Ch. 3: Track for the San Juan Central, pp. 18-23, Ch. 4: Wiring for the San Juan Central, pp. 24-27, Ch. 5: Scenery for the San Juan Central, pp. 28-35, Ch. 6: Structures for the San Juan Central, pp. 36-43, Ch. 7: Bridges for the San Juan Central, pp. 44-49, Ch. 8: Locomotives and cars for the San Juan Central, pp. 50-53, Ch. 9: Operation on the San Juan Central, pp. 54-57, Acknowledgments, Dedication and Suppliers addresses, pp. 58-64. Benchmark Publications, softcover, 64 pages, B&W and Color photographs and illustrations.

Terms of Sale

Arizona Hobbies LLC

I reduce shipping for books that weigh less than 1 lb. with packaging. International shipping rates are quoted for a 1 lb. book. International orders that weigh more than 1 lb. will require additional shipping fees.

All books are shipped sealed in plastic to help prevent damage. Sturdy boxes are used often with bubble-wrap and additional padding. Thin titles may ship in a sturdy mailer with cardboard reinforcing. You will not receive 'rounded' books from Arizona Hobbies as you will from Amazon.com with their shoddy packaging.

A a bar code label with USPS a Tracking/Delivery Confirmation number is applied to your shipment. You will be advised of via email of the tracking when your order ships. USPS Media Mail (books, DVDs, CDs, maps) transit time is almost as good as UPS Ground today. Using a bar code label helps move the mail more quickly.

I've only had only six lost and three damaged shipments out of 20,000+ since 1999. This includes International shipments. I use a freight forwarder for International shipments. Canadian shipments bypass the USPS and go directly to Windsor, Ontario via my freight forwarder. It may take up to 2 weeks before Canada Post tracking information is available as we must consolidate orders to forward.

Defective DVDs will be replaced by the same title if available. Since most of my books are in NEW CONDITION and still in the printers plastic shrink-wrap, opened and thumbed through titles become used and a 20 percent re-stocking/used charge will apply plus the shipping costs incurred.

We package books to arrive undamaged in boxes or heavy cardboard mailers. We will never ship a book in a padded mailer! You know who has many booksellers selling through their website -and the packaging is terrible. Save yourself the grief of a damaged book and order from us!

Our prices are so good many booksellers list our inventory elsewhere and have us drop-ship to the buyer. Save your money and shop here first!

Our inventory is cataloged by Publisher. All titles we stock by that publisher will be listed there.
