About This Item

London: Robert Hale Limited, 1961. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Fair. Inscribed by Leonard on the title page. Good in a Fair jacket, unclipped (8/6d. net), generally rubbed and soiled, chipped at the top edge of the front panel. Red cloth, some tidemarks on the rear board. An early Leonard western about John Russell and his battle against an outlaw train-robbing gang, adapted into the film of the same title starring Paul Newman.

Synopsis

John Russell has been raised as an Apache. Now he's on his way to live as a white man. But when the stagecoach passengers learn who he is, they want nothing to do with him -- until outlaws ride down on them and they must rely on Russell's guns and his ability to lead them out of the desert. He can't ride with them, but they must walk with him or die.
