About This Item

First Edition Set of the Hyperion Cantos and Endymion Duologies. These are Not x-libs, and not book clubs.
Hyperion (first book of the Hyperion Cantos series) by Dan Simmons (author of Carrion Comfort, Phases of Gravity, Summer of Night, etc) Trade Paperback First Edition - First Printing Doubleday US 1989 8.95 cover price. (issued simultaneously in trade paperback and hardcover, the latter in reportedly only 2000 copies) Winner of the Hugo Award and Locus Award for Best Novel. (Published also by Headline UK in 1990 in hardcover and trade paperback, and later by Subterranean Press.) Stand-Alone Simmon's Signature on title page.
Fine- copy. A nearly-perfect copy with NO creasing to the spine. Only very light foxing to the edges of the text-block. Outwardly a very nice trade paperback copy, a much more economic alternative to the first hardcover edition which runs about $1000+. The Fall of Hyperion (second book of the Hyperion Cantos series) Trade Paperback First Edition - First Printing NY: Doubleday US, 1989. 8.95 cover price. (issued simultaneously in trade paperback and hardcover, the latter in reportedly only 4000 copies) Winner of the British SF Award and the Locus Award for Best Novel. Near Fine+. Some typical nicks to the corners but very little reading wear and NO creasing to the spine. Endymion (first book of the Endymion Duology) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing NY: Bantam US, 1996. $22.95 cover price. Fine- in Fine Dust Jacket. A nearly perfect unread copy save two tiny nicks to the bottom edge of the front board, almost imperceptible. The best copy of the set in terms of condition. Free book to fill out the set: The Rise of Endymion (second book of the Endymion Duology) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing NY: Bantam US, 1996. $23.95. Near Fine in Very Good Dust Jacket. A decent copy, by no means perfect. Book itself may have been read with some wear and light scuffing here and there. The jacket has a repaired closed tear to the upper left-hand front corner, some nicks.

A full set of the Hyperion and Endymion books all in trade hardcovers will run you about $1500 to $2500. This is a nice more economic alternative. NOTE on edition: Hyperion was originally published in a simultaneous hardcover and trade paperback in 1989 by Doubleday US. Reportedly only 2000 copies were issued in hardcover, the balance, probably something like 10,000 copies, were issued in trade paperback. Very early on, the hardcover sold out very quickly and became collectible particularly after winning the Hugo Award for Best Novel. It now appears to trade for $2000+ on the collectible book market. The following year, Headline UK issued the first UK edition of Hyperion in 1990 also in both hardcover and trade paperback issues, probably in no more than 2000 copies, possibly closer to 1000 copies. About 22 years later in 2012, Subterranean Press issued a signed-limited edition of Hyperion and the three other titles of the series. Sets tend to be priced at about $2000 for the set. The only hardcover editions of this book are the Doubleday US, Headline UK, and Subterranean Press editions, barring a book club edition which combines Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion.

NOTE: All modern books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers.
