The patriarch, a successful lawyer, dies suddenly, leaving his wife and children to fend for themselves. The matriarch is determined to provide for her family and does whatever she can to make ends meet. The eldest son is a successful doctor, but the middle son is a wastrel. The youngest son, who is barely into his twenties, is struggling to find his way in the world. When the patriarch's death is announced, the family gathers to discuss what to do with his estate. The matriarch decides to divide it equally among her children. This causes some friction, as the eldest son feels that he should receive the most. Ultimately, the youngest son is able to reconcile with his brother and they all go on to lead successful lives.; 8vo; 231 pages .
