About This Item

(New York): The Macmillan Company, 1970. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/near fine. First U.S. edition, first printing, octavo size, 221 pp. signed by Maurice Chevalier. Perhaps one of the best-known French actors of the first half of the 20th century, Maurice Chevalier (1888-1972) was nominated for the Academy Award in 1930 for Best Actor for his roles in "The Love Parade" (1929) and "The Big Pond" (1930), which secured his first big American hit, "Livin' in the Sunlight, Lovin' in the Moonlight" (N.B., from Wiki).

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in sky blue cloth, gilt lettering on the front and spine, plain endpapers, M. Chevalier's signature boldly written with in blue on the front free endpaper, one section of black and white photographs bound in; octavo size (8.5" by 5.75"), pagination: [1-6] 7-221. The dust jacket shows the original price of $5.95, pictorial head shot of M. Chevalier with red and white lettering on the front panel and spine, quotes from the book on the back panel, summary of book on both flaps.

___CONDITION: Volume is fine overall, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, three corners are perfectly straight and one is gently bumped, all with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings. The dust jacket is not price-clipped, there is some extremely light edgewear particularly at the head of the spine, and one short (one inch) closed tear where the head of the spine meets the front panel; the rest of the jacket is crisp and clean, with the red lettering on the spine strong and true (not sunned).

___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please contact us for details.
