Jones’ first book was “From here to Eternity, ” which was made into a movie with Frank Sinatra, Burt Lancaster, and Deborah Kerr. Other works include “The Pistol, ” “A Touch of Danger, ” “Viet Journal, ” and “WWII. ” For Jones, the military was far more than a literary setting: He earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Circa 1973. .
