About This Item

From the Introduction: "...Henry Adams wrote with a perception which warrants its frequent quotation: 'Almost every other American statesman might be described in a parenthesis. A few broad strokes of the brush would paint the portrait of all the early presidents with this exception...Jefferson could be painted only touch by touch, with a fine pencil.'"

Book - Good+ condition. Red coated cloth covers over boards with gold gilt on spine. Spine and gilt are faded. Front cover has a triangle impression with EPD in it (I'm assuming the publisher.) Very little wear, but some fading to top of front cover. Both covers have some spots. Book has previous owner's name in ink and pencil. There is a crack before the photograph across the title page was inserted. Other than that, the binding is very good. The book is "Illustrated with Fifteen Life Portraits of Jefferson. The text is clean; however, there was a newspaper clipping inserted between pages 336 and 337. It has severely discolored the text in the area where it was. The clipping is "A Happy Ending to Troubled Story of Monticello" by Henry J. Taylor. I do not know the date of the paper, but the article does have: "Copyright, 1963, United Features.) The book will come with the article intact.
