About This Item
This is a first edition (1962) of John Adams, by the American historian, journalist and academic Page Smith (1917-1995). It was a best-seller, and critically-acclaimed, winning numerous prizes. It is considered by many to be the best biography because Smith did such a great job of putting Adams' story in the correct historical context, every step of the way, because of the amount of detail included, and because he so clearly drew all of the personalities of the characters involved.
This copy was published by Doubleday, for the Book of the Month Club. It is in two volumes, which come in a teal cardboard slipcase--the slipcase shows a lot of wear.
There are lots of black and white photos inside but the books are quite plain, just pale gray boards with brilliant gold and red lettering. The dust jackets have the same design; in both cases, they are in fine shape, save for shelfwear to the spines only.
