About This Item
Brussels: Antoine Sabatier de Castres. Very Good with No dust jacket as issued. 1790. 1st Edition. First Printing. Leather. First edition, first printing. Quarter bound by William Lewis of Cardiff, in brown calf over marbled boards, spine in seven compartments separated by raised bands, gilt lettering in one compartment on red label, date, gilt, in bottom compartment, blind-stamped tools in remainder, blind-staamped borders on covers, fore-edge deckle, marbled endpapers. This volume consists of 24 issues of the Journal, published between about September of 1789 and January of 1790. Antoine Sabatier de Castres (1742 1817) was a French journalist and man of letters. He published this Journal in 1789-1790, beginning immediately after the storming of the Bastille in July of 1789. He was a Royalist, leaving Paris right after the beginning of the Revolution, and returning only after the restoration of the king. Because of its Royalist slant, the Journal was printed in Brussels, instead of Paris. . Former owner's printed bookplate (G. L. Clark) on fep, small binder's label on rep, otherwise unmarked, covers and spine moderately rubbed, hinges strong, text block tight, square, and clean. VERY GOOD. . 8vo 8" - 9" tall. 324 pp .
