About This Item

Aurora, Illinois: Eugene Smith Company - Acorn Press, 1913. Extremely rare original edition of 1913 preceding the more common 1920 self-published edition. Thick, dark blue matte wraps, gilt embossed cover titles with stamped image of a dissected planet with golden central sun, moderate edge wear, rub, discoloration. Pages very good; no writing. Blue matte endpapers. Profusely illustrated with nine plates; several in color unlike later editions. Bind good, intact. Covers all aspects of the contemporaneous science, exploration, and theories pertaining to a hollow earth with openings at the poles. Marshall Gardner, a hollow-earth proponent, presents his scientific hypotheses to explain the formation of hollow planets. Much on artic explorers' logs and records, scientific and anecdotal evidence. This theory also incorporates the concept of a central heat and light source, i.e. a form of sun, held in a centered space by equally applied gravitational force emanating from the midpoint of the earth's spherical crust, e.g. if crust is 800 miles thick then gravitation emanates from apprx. 400 mile depth for both exterior and interior of planet. 69 pages. Published by the Author at Aurora, Illinois. Insured post.. First Edition. Soft Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
