About This Item
London and Bombay: Humphrey Milford/ Oxford University Press. Fair with no dust jacket. 1923. First Edition. Hardcover. Although the covers look quite worn and the front hinge feels a little loose, this is actually quite a decent copy of a scarce title. The frontispiece is a striking color depiction of a child afflicted with this parasitic disease. The book is 160 pages in length. There are several black and white full-page photos of patients and one color plate showing microscopic cultures. Near the back is a pull-out map of South India showing the distribution of cases, and several other charts, one also a pull-out. In other words, the book is loaded with interesting graphics. The pages are lightly age-toned but not brittle. A few pencil markings are noted toward the front. A prior owner, one Dr. William Harvey Perkins, has signed the half-title page and dated it 1926. He has also left a wonderful bookplate, with a maiden, a dragon and a caduceus. Good medical history here. .
