Edition Deluxe, one of 500 signed copies, of which this is number 342. With an original pencil sketch by Kate Greenaway. The sketch is a portrait of a young girl and is much nicer than most with added shading and detail. Quarto. [xx], 301 pp. With fifty-three color illustrations and numerous black and white illustrations.

Publisher's white beveled cloth, geometric blind stamping to the front and spine, gilt cover and spine lettering, decorative color endpapers, top edge gilt. Some light wear to spine extremities, front and rear hinge starting. A very attractive copy.

This biography and bibliography of Kate Greenaway has a very interesting publishing history. Published by John Greenaway as a memorial to his sister, all five hundred copies contain original Kate Greenaway artwork bound in. Copy number one has five watercolor sketches, copy number two has four and so on. Copy numbers five through ten each have one watercolor sketch. Beginning with copy number eleven each copy has an original pencil sketch.
