About This Item
Limited to 7000 copies.
The Soviet icebreaker Krassin took part in the Umberto Nobile's North Pole expedition rescue operation. The writer Emily Mindlin (1900-1981), was one of the crew members.
The original edition of Mindlin's novel was published in Russian in 1929 and republished in many soviet nations' languages.
This edition was issued in Jaᶇalif - the first Latin alphabet used during the Latinisation in the Soviet Union in the 1930s for the Turkic languages. In 1928-1940, as part of a comprehensive program to "educate" Uzbek people, who for the first time had their own cartographically delineated region (the Republic of Uzbekistan was created in October 1924), Uzbek writing was switched to Latin script.
