About This Item
[Film] Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Archive of 4 original silver gelatin vintage photographs. Three are 8" x 10" in glossy black and white and one is a 2.5" 2.5" sepia-toned slide. 2001: A Space Odyssey is Kubrick's first film in color that explores human evolution, technological advancement, Artificial Intelligence, and the concept of extraterrestrial life. The film was groundbreaking for its special effects and won Kubrick his only Academy Award. With mixed reviews following its initial release, by the start of the 21st century, the film had become recognized as one of the best films ever made by the British Film Institute, American Film Institute and Sight & Sound Magazine. The film elevated the science fiction genre and established new effects used for future productions like Star Wars, Star Trek, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Photos feature some of the special effects scenes including the rotational sets and space flight, along with an image of Keir Dullea as Dr. Dave Bowman. One photo has stamp on verso with caption: "The air stewardess, carrying a weightless food tray, enters the cockpit area of the spacecraft Aires to serve a meal to the crew on duty" with additional production information. All in very good condition.
