About This Item

New York: John B. Alden, 1888. Susan Wallace (1830-1907) was actually a published author prior to husband Lew's great success with "Ben-Hur." She served as his editor and primary critic and completed his autobiography. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition (these collected stories previously appeared in different periodicals). Tan, decorative cloth binding; stamped illustration of a pueblo on the front cover. Illustrations are by Lew Wallace. Clean text; 285 pages; foxing to the endpapers, but generally bright and supple. Evidently this copy was once the property of a private reading group; the front paste-down and endpaper have a printed list of the members and a list of the books transfered to them. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. Illus. by Lew Wallace.
