About This Item
Edinburgh: William Paterson, 1882. Paperback. 46p., first issue (or at least, the first softbound issue), 7.5x5 inch wraps, sewn signatures (threads holding nicely), a handleable exemplar lacking two inches on the tail of its spine panel, (roughly torn away but holding well enough), both covers and both endsheets heavily spotted with foxing and smudged with dust-soil. A fair-to-good reading copy. One of the master's conclusions is that the prototypes of trade unions, guilds, were encouraged to be ethical, and that their modern embodiments are encouraged to gouge.
