About This Item

Palo Alto, California: Syntex Laboratories, Inc. , 1966. Near Fine condition. A square, tight copy. Pages are clean and unmarked. Illustrated with 6 color plates (skin diseases reproduced from Worcester's 1845 text). Biography of a pioneer in American Dermatology. Noah Worcester (1812-1847) was the first American to write a text book on diseases of the skin: A SYNOPSIS OF THE SYMPTOMS, DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF THE MORE COMMON AND IMPORTANT DISEASES OF THE SKIN, WITH SIXTY COLORED FIGURES, published in 1845. Thirty years were to pass before another textbook on the subject appeared in the United States. Top edge gilt. The marbled endpapers in this book are authentic, and quite attractive too. Selective bibliography. This copy is bound in the original gilt-decorated brown and black boards (apparently intended to simulate a 19th-century half-leather and marbled paper-covered board binding).. 1st ed. (No additional printings listed). Hardcover. Near Fine condition/No dust jacket. 8vo. 64pp.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
