A very funny book about a special Mom and Dad and their very large family (nine kids at the time of the book, at least one more afterwards). This amazing Mom always tackles the task at hand with good humor and a lot of creativity.

The Van Leers, who live way out yonder in Montana, already had "wall-to-wall kids" -- eight to be exact -- when they decided to adopt another, an Indian papoose straight off the reservation, by jingy. But there was a wait of several months before B-Day (Baby Day) and Mrs. Van Leer filled up the time by writing this cheery-o account of their big happy family. As you might expect it's full of wet diapers, flu epidemics, family fishing excursions, potty training, children's pets, and kitchen spillages. Also, it's full of cornball puns, for which Mrs. Van Leer seems to have a special weakness -- e.g., three dozen broken eggs on the kitchen floor cause her to reflect that "it was eggsactly the kind of situation that makes me so hard-boiled." Actually like the eggs, everything in this third-rate rerun of Please Don't Eat the Daisies is mushy and bland, but it might provide an occasional chuckle to those non-Lib ladies who enjoy their Good Housekeeping barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen.
