8vo. 195 x 125 mm., [7 1/2 x 5 inches]. [10], 297 pp. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 20 half tone plates. Publisher's blue cloth, a few scrapes and nicks to the spine, otherwise sound and attractive copy. Engraved bookplate of Sarah Gilbert Wood.
Second edition, revised. This edition with illustrations and much more information on the Venetian estuary and the people who made it their home. "The chapters in the first edition which referred chiefly to the mainland of Venetia have been omitted, with a view to concentrating the work upon the city of Venice . . ."
Horatio Brown was a historian of Venice, author of a book on the origins of printing in the city, and collector. He dedicated this book "To my Gondolier Antonio Salin my Constant Companion in Venice and Venetia."
