About This Item

New York/London: John Lane, 1903. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good copy, lacking the scarce dustwrapper. Cloth-backed pictorial boards. Truly funny anthology of mock literary trials--Henry James vs. Mary Baker Eddy: "Infringement of Patent," for example--often with Mark Twain presiding as judge. Other "characters" include Bliss Carman, Ella Wheeler Wilcox, Oliver Herford, Booth Tarkington, Richard Harding Davis, etc. Authorship has been disputed. Not in BAL. Minor edgewear; some chipping to spine label. 1904 owner signature on dedication page.
