About This Item
A children's rhyme book thoroughly handwritten and drawn by spanish poet and draughtsman José Moreno Villa, during his lenghty exile in Mexico. Moreno Villa is best known as an early exponent of surrealism in Spain (for Jacinta la pelirroja), and later as a historian of baroque mexican art who coined the term "tequitqui" (as an analogue to the use of "mudéjar" in Spain). Edited by Manuel Altolaguirre under his imprint ISLA, it is one of the most elusive books produced by the spanish exiles in Mexico. Large quarto, publisher's printed boards, text and images thoroughly printed in color, unpaginated. Near fine, except for a cut of about 2'' to ffep (it looks like someone was trying to cut out one of the figurines, but luckily got prevented from doing it in the last minute). The fragile cardboard spine is present and whole. Previous owners signature on title page, presumably by a relative of the author.
