About This Item
New York: Cosmopolitan Book Corporation, 1928. "Long Lance" was born Sylvester Clark Long (1890-1932) and worked as a journalist, actor, and advocate for Native American rights. During his life he claimed native ancestry through several different tribes, including the Cherokee and Blackfoot. Because his story changed often, he became to be considered a sort of fraud, but the real story may be more complicated than that judgement allowed. Whatever the truth, his biography here is a delightful read and was very popular. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition. Brick red cloth binding with titling in black on the spine and front cover; representation of two tipis on the front. Clean text; xv, 278 pages. Frontis illustration, with ten others within. The forward is by Irvin S. Cobb, a journalist advocate who seems to have become disillusioned later. Bumping to two corners, with a touch of rub to the head and foot of the spine. The rather attractive dustjacket is unclipped, lightly worn at the tips, with a chip at the head of the spine. In an archival plastic protector.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
