The Fellowship of the Ring & The Return of the King are Sixth Impressions, 1971, The Two Towers is an identical edition, but is the Fifth Impression, 1970. All three volumes are bound in original brick red cloth, with a red top edge, in the original dust jackets. The jacket for The Two Towers has been price-clipped by the publisher, with the publisher's revised price sticker attached. Each of the dust jackets is protected in a clear plastic sleeve. There is mild shelf-wear to the bottom edges, and the foredges of the books show mild soiling and foxong. There is a small amount of old tape residue to the front and rear pastedowns, and the front hinges are slightly strained, but still holding well. The former owner's name is written in ink to the front free end-paper of Fellowship, and in pencil to The Two Towers. The books are internally clean throughout, and the fold-out maps are intact and bright, but there is a 1" tear to the upper left corner of the Fellowship map, which does not impact the details of the map itself. These early Revised (Second) Edition printings by George Allen & Unwin are becoming harder to obtain in this condition.
