Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1953. Hardcover. 173p., introduction, the play in translation, notes, index, character list of the principal Japanese & Chinese words, names & titles, previous owner's name in ink on title page, mild wear to covers else good first edition in dark blue cloth and fading gilt titles. Eighteenth century play which was originally a bunraku puppet play but was adapted to kabuki. The Japanese new wave filmmaker Masahiro Shinoda directed a stylized adaptation of the story as "Double Suicide" in 1969.
