About This Item
Boston: Fields, Osgood & Co, 1870. First Edition. First edition, first issue without the story "Brown of Calaveras." (viii), 239 pp. Original burgundy cloth with gilt spine lettering, brown endpapers. An attractive unsophisticated copy in much better shape than usually found. Front hinge cracked, else Near Fine with a few tiny spots of insecting to spine, just a little bubble to front cloth, rubbing to extremities. Gilt bright-- this copy presents very well.
The titular story is about a boy, dubbed Thomas Luck, born in a gold prospecting camp in California. It was adapted into short films numerous times.
