About This Item

New York/Rutland/Tokyo: Japan Publications Trading Company, 1965. Book. As New. Cloth. Second Edition. Second Edition. Quarto (12' X 8.25"), dark brown burlap covered boards over white cloth spine with titles and spine titles in red, white and brown. 282pp. including index, bibliography, glossary and appendix. Very generously illustrated throughout with 200 black and white gravure photographic illustrations and many line drawn plans and charts for garden layout and construction. This book covers every aspect of the classic formal Japanese Garden, from the symbolism of different stone and plant arrangements, to the construction of bridges and fences, placement of ponds and streams, trees, shrubs, moss and lichens, stone paved and gravel paths, stone lanterns, pagodas and basins etc. With separate treatments of the Kitchen Garden, the Interior Courtyard Garden, the Tea Garden, the Rooftop Garden, etc. An exhaustive and authoritative study. The bibliography includes what the authors consider to be the essential books on Japanese Gardens in both Japanese and English, and the appendix notes all of the trees and plants referred to in the text. This book is MINT in the ORIGINAL PUBLISHERS CARD BOX with flap and large pale green decorated wrap around title and spine title label. The book is absolutely tight, with fresh rich cloth and titles and a perfect interior without flaws or defects of any kind, unmarked, unblemished and apparently unread. Likewise the dust jacket is brilliant, glossy, tight, clean, unmarked and unblemished. The Japanese price is clipped but the US price is unclipped (this was frequently done by the publisher for translations and export books). Very fine in very fine dust jacket. In every respect flawless and pristine. AS NEW..
