He provides a lucid study of this interaction, from the Islamic occupation of Spain, in the early 8th century, through the gradual rise of Christian Spain and the success of the 'Reconquista' in the 13th century, to the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella, dual monarchs of the Inquisition period, and the final conquest of Muslim Granada in 1492.
