Sheet I, II, and III image sizes 16.5 x 9.75 inches each; page sizes 19 x 11.25 inches each.<br/> <br/> Obsucre set of maps on thin paper, that illustrate a U.S. Naval expedition by Gilliss to the Southern Hemisphere 1849-1852. In good condition. Some chips and small tears to edges, each map shows some staining and foxing. Navy lieutenant and astronomer James Melville Gilliss (1881-1865) went to study the natural and social history of the Republic of Chile.<br/> <br/>
