Japan: Soju-sha, 1973. Book. Very Good. No Binding. Loose plates in portfolio. Text in English and Japanese. Japan: n.p. (1973). First edition. Folio. Loose sheets in folding pictorial and lettered chemise. All plates have a trace of edge tanning else fine in similiar folding chemise with a bit of light soiling and scuffing. Extremities have a bit of wear. Spine has a tiny hole else very good. A nice copy of this uncommon and beautifully produced portfolio consisting of twelve 12" x 16" beautifully reproduced images from W. Eugene Smith's landmark photo essay on the people of Minamata, Japan and the devasting effects of the local chemical plants on the local citizens and workers. Published to accompany the exhibition "Minamata. Life Sacred and Profane" presented at Seibu Department Store exhibition hall and in other Japanese cities. Accompanying is a chronology of Smith's life and work. Text in English and Japanese..
