About This Item

London: Architectural Association, 1985. A few spots of toning and discoloration on some plates, overall near fine, close to fine in printed box. Though amply represented institutionally, scarce in the trade.. First Edition. Large square quarto in box. Contains four works on plates (consisting of nine separate pieces), and an unbound booklet with photographs of twenty-one additional pieces, alongside text by Alvin Boyardsky, Richard George Rogers, and David Dodge Gray. The works on plate utilize a variety of material, including embossed glossy paper, silk screened prints, raised paper sculptures in matte frames, and printed Perspex acrylic. Kisa Kawakami's work straddles architecture and sculpture; his often paper based models bridge the conceptual radicalism of Archigram and other 1960s architectural collectives with the private craft work of traditional Japanese paper arts. The multiples included in this box provide a rare glimpse into the work of an artist little known outside of speculative architecture cognoscenti.
