About This Item

From the front dust jacket flap: "This is not a pretty story. It involves men in high places. The shame of a great midwestern city is laid bare. It is one of the most severe indictments of 'bossism' ever written, and it is explosive with drama that needs no Hollywood retouching to make it interesting." "Maurice M. Milligan took office in the days when Tom Pendergast's machine completely controlled Kansas City. He fought it and beat it; backed by an outburst of popular anger, he did not rest until Boss Pendergast and his principal lieutenants stood before Federal judges and heard their sentences to Federal prison." Book - Good condition. Red cloth over boards with black text on front and spine. There is an area at the bottom of the front and back covers that has some sort of discoloration and stain. I did try to wipe it, but the stain is there to stay. There is a little edge and corner wear. A previous owner's name is on back of front cove in ink. There is also discoloration that appears to be from the glue that was used. Text on the pages is free of marks, but there is some soiling and light red stains on the closed book page edges. Also, pages 263-272 have bottom corner creases. A good reading copy. Dust Jacket - Poor condition, but at some point, it was put in a clear, protective cover. That cover appears to have some light rubbing/bumping. Please use photos as part of the description. 281 pages.
