Author Emile Gaboriau, 1832-1873, was a French writer, novelist and journalist who pioneered detective fiction--and inspired Arthur Conan Doyle with his Sherlock Holmes detective fiction. In his novels, he follows the casreer of master detecitve Monsieur Lecoq of the French Surete, solving mysteries all over Paris. He is a scientifically-minded detective, methodically in his investigations. This novel is the fifth novel Gaboriau wrote featuring Monsieur Lecoq, first published 1869. In a tavern in a bad neighborhood a double murder takes place and the French police are baffled and Lecoq, with his constable, become obsessed with catching the criminal. 194 pages. 6 x 9 inches. 2006, Published by Echo LIbrary, Middlesex, England
