About This Item
Atheneum, 1963. First Edition. Trade Paperback. Near Fine. A superb association copy. Laid in loose is a 2 page typed poem (signed by Merwin in pen) titled 'Tribute'; on the back of the second sheet in pencil are two variants of the poems 'Recognition', and 'Noah's Raven', both are published in this book. This copy is also from the library of William Matchett with his bookplate and penned date (1963) on the first blank, and a review slip laid in loose. Matchett was a poet/editor/friend, as well a Poet's Theatre colleague with Merwin (and at the time Matchett was a co-editor of Poetry Northwest, which is why the typed poem would have been sent to Matchett). Additionally the book is inscribed to Matchett by Merwin dated May 1983 when Merwin was in Seattle as that years speaker at The Theodore Roethke Memorial Poetry Reading. A nice clean, and tight copy, with just a hint of rubbing, else Near Fine.
