Collins Crime Club, 1952. First edition, first printing. 8vo. Orange boards with black titles. Red, black & blue geometric designed dustwrapper by Kenneth Farnhill. A fine copy with clean boards. No marks to boards or textblock edges. Internally very clean & fresh with no inscriptions. The very good+ dustwrapper is complete with a few short closed tears, edgewear to foot & offsetting to rear panel of wrapper. Unfaded red wrapper spine. A very good+ copy. Wagstaff & Poole p202. Mrs McGinty was killed with a brutal blow to the head and her savings stolen. Immediate suspicion falls on the "down at heel" lodger but Hercule Poirot has his own ideas.

Synopsis

Mrs McGinty died from a brutal blow to the back of her head. Suspicion fell immediately on her shifty lodger, James Bentley, whose clothes revealed traces of the victim's blood and hair. Yet something was amiss: Bentley just didn't look like a murderer. Poirot believed he could save the man from the gallows -- what he didn't realise was that his own life was now in great danger...
