About This Item

London: Collins Crime Club, 1952. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. (London: Published for THE CRIME CLUB by COLLINS 1952). First UK Edition. This is a first printing of the first UK Edition. This example is fine in like dustwrapper (the brightest, cleanest and nicest example that I have handled in more than 10 years). The red cloth binding is square, clean, bright, and tight with sharp corners with just very light pushing to the spine ends (hardly worth mentioning). The contents are bright and clean with no spotting, no detectable age toning, and a crisp, unread feel. Even the text block edges are immaculate. The sole previous ownership mark is a contemporary name, British Columbia address, and date of 1953 inked on the front free endpaper. Affixed to the front pastedown is the tiny bookseller's sticker of an Edmonton, Alberta bookseller. The fine dustwrapper is bright, clean, and complete. The original publisher's price of 9s. 6d. net is present to the lower front flap. An absolutely beautiful copy and exceedingly uncommon in this condition. Photographs/scans available upon request.

Synopsis

Mrs McGinty died from a brutal blow to the back of her head. Suspicion fell immediately on her shifty lodger, James Bentley, whose clothes revealed traces of the victim's blood and hair. Yet something was amiss: Bentley just didn't look like a murderer. Poirot believed he could save the man from the gallows -- what he didn't realise was that his own life was now in great danger...
