From its first publication in 1789 to the dawn of the 20th Century, White's "Natural History" went through at least 90 editions in the British Isles alone, and it continues to delight. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition Thus, presented in an attractive fine binding. Marbled paper-covered boards and endpapers with tips and spine in dark green leather; five raised bands. Identified as "The Standard Edition by E.T. Bennett. Thoroughly revised, with additional Notes, by James Edmund Harting, F.L.S., F.Z.S." Illustrated by Thomas Bewick and others.Rubbed at the margins. A solid copy, quite readable today. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Thus.. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Illus. by "Phiz" (Hablot Knight Brown).
