About This Item

London: A. Donaldson, 1832. White's great natural history is still in print. Here is an early 19th-century edition in a full-leather binding. Smooth calf with gilt ruling on the front and rear covers; five raised bands on the spine, highlighted in gilt and with a red and gilt label. Clean text; 562 pages, with Index and Index to the Antiquities; marbled endpapers, all page edges also marbled. There is no publication date; however, the Preface, by "J.R.," is dated 1832. Interestingly, there are thirteen different publishers listed on the Title Page. The textblock is close to Fine, very bright and supple. However, this is a Good only copy: both gutters have cracked and are very tender; and the spine leather has separated and is barely holding on; about 1/3 (lower) is demolished and is not present. Please note the condition issues; Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of restoration or repair. Because of the internally quality, Quercus considers this book an excellent candidate for a rebind. . First Thus. Full-Leather. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
