New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1855. Henry James (1811-1882) was a noted theologian who fathered William, Henry, and Alice. John Banville has written that "All of the Jameses had a morbidly acute sense of the darkness underlying life." James considers whether there is Evil or are there only Evil Deeds. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Brown cloth binding, stamped with rules on the front cover; gilt titling and ruled bands on the spine. Clean text; 348 pages, with four pages of publisher adverts in the rear. Errata slip tipped in. Small contemporary name label on front paste-down. Bumped corners and some chipping at the spine. A very sound copy otherwise.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
