E. Owen, 1750, London. First Edition. Hardback. Near Fine/No Jacket. First edition Owen 1750. Engraved title-page, engraved vignettes in margins throughout and 3 larger engraved vignettes in the text, all by Paul Fourdrinier, marginal light finger-soiling to a number leaves, odd toning and general age soiling but overall bright and crisp. Ownership inscription dated 1926 to front free endpaper, later ochre calf, slightly knocked to corners, 4to 27 x 20 cms. An excellent copy of a rare naval dictionary, preceding Falconer's Universal Dictionary of the Marine by nearly twenty years. ESTC T131269. Blanckley (1717-1753) clerk of the survey at Portsmouth and a commissioner of the Victualling Office.
