The binding is bumped & lightly rubbed with some spotting to the covers. 443 pages. There is an owner's book label on the front endpaper. There are occasional very small stains & areas of soiling. Numerous black-and-white photographic illustrations, maps & diagrams. Very good. <p>Admiral Downes writes in his foreword: "[The Reader] is, in almost its entirety, a compilation of articles written just before or during the present war. The articles are from the pens of regular U.S. Navy Officers, Naval Reserve Officers, and civilians who are qualified to write on the subjects they have selected. Many of the articles are based on personal experiences."
