Edward Everett Hale was born in Boston in 1822 and grew up as Boston was changing from a large town into a city in the 1820's and 30's. It is autobiography with a sense of society in the world of two centuries ago, already nostalgic one century ago. A map showing the land filled in from river and bay are a physical sign of the growth. Stock# 48067.
