Illustrated by specially drawn maps of the battle-field, the monuments erected by the state of New Jersey, and portraits of brigade and regimental commanders. !887 copyright page, 1888 title page. In original blue cloth with gilt lettering. With the ownership signature of Civil War soldier Samuel H. Morris, Cambridge City, Ind. dated Mar. 20, 1892. Morris has pasted to the front end papers a contemporary newspaper article with the obituary of General I. N. Stiles, with his manuscript inscription, first in pencil and then in ink -"I. N. Stiles was the adjt. of the 20th Ind. at organization. Gen. I.N. Stiles was a good friend to me when I was under Comand(sic) in N.C. in 1865. I and others sit by his head quarter camp fire many nights listening there to the storys(sic) and experences(sic) of the past." Morris has tipped to rear end papers a contemporary newspaper article about the 183rd Ohio. At several of the portrait illustrations Morris has added inked notations about the deaths of those individuals, i.e. Colonel Percy Wyndham "Born Sept. 22, 1833. Died Jan. 27, 1879 by falling from a baloon(sic)". A Very Good copy, light wear and soiling to boards. A fascinatingly personalized copy owned by one who lived the story. . 2nd Edition. Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
